A Debt We Cannot Pay

How challenging life is and may become for many in our present financial situation, not just in the wider economy but for individuals and families. With prices rising in household expenditure, it can be a fine balancing act knowing which bill to pay first. Worse still, if we lose a job and have little prospect of further employment in the immediate future, things are likely to be even more worrying. It is often at this point that we realise we cannot solve the financial crisis ourselves; we need to talk to someone who can help us and give us much needed advice.

If these everyday debts become too difficult to manage, how can we ever pay the debt for the wrong we have done which has separated us from God? We need to realise that we cannot do anything ourselves as the enormity of the debt is beyond us. Even our good deeds would never be good enough to compensate, and so the big question is who can we turn to?

"Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else." Isaiah 45:22

Look to Jesus on the cross. Come to Him by faith and prayer. As you consider the death of this perfect man on the cross at this Easter time don't view it just as an historical event. Ask God to help you to understand and comprehend the significance of Jesus' death, burial and resurrection, which are the centre point of the Christian faith. Look up to Him and be saved - there is no one else.

In Jesus on the cross we see the selfless act of love of the Son of God who was prepared to undertake and accomplish His Father's will in the plan of salvation for the human race. Jesus, innocent of any crime or wrong, allowed men to crucify him. In so doing he gave his life as the ultimate sacrifice to pay the debt of sin, so that all those that believe in Him could be reconciled to God. God raised His Son from the dead because the sacrifice of His life had fully paid the debt of sin.

Jesus said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10

If today someone should step in and pay all your debts so that you could be free from them - how wonderful that would be. So let us greatly rejoice this Easter that Jesus by an amazing act of love on the cross has offered all those who seek forgiveness and who believe in Him, peace with God and an eternal home in heaven when our life in this world is ended.

Whatever our present financial needs, our greatest need is to be forgiven for all those things we have done wrong, in order to find peace with God. We are precious to Jesus and we can turn to Him in prayer with all our difficulties. We know He cares about us because He willingly paid the debt that we could never pay.

"There was no other good enough to pay the price of sin; He (Jesus) only could unlock the gate of heaven, and let us in." (Verse from the hymn There is a green hill far away by Mrs Cecil Frances Alexander)

You can read about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus in the gospels: Matthew 27 & 28; Mark 15 & 16; Luke 23 & 24; and John 19 & 20. If you do not have a Bible, you could visit this bible website:
